An educational space open to the community
The aim of this development is to provide a stimulating environment for children’s early learning, whilst offering local residents a place where they can access books and knowledge. Designed to maximise natural light and thermal comfort, the building features a welcoming architectural style and sustainable materials. More than just a school building, it serves as a central resource for all families in the neighbourhood.
An integrated and sustainable approach
This development is characterised by its implementation principles:
- A participatory approach: the spaces and their uses were designed in close consultation with users, educational staff and families in order to perfectly meet the neighbourhood’s actual needs.
- Engagement through design: interior and exterior design encourages creativity, play and interaction, transforming every corner into a dynamic learning environment.
- Roots in local expertise: the construction showcases local craftsmanship and materials, strengthening local residents’ sense of ownership of the site from day one.
Through this school and its library, the Kigali Urban Fabric Initiative demonstrates that investing in local educational infrastructure helps to lay the foundations for social inclusion and creates a strong anchor for the community’s future.
