Inauguration of the Lycée des Parcelles Assainies site (UFI Dakar)
In July, the UFI Dakar inaugurated its fourth site at the Lycée des Parcelles Assainies (LPA). The new pedestrian areas, pavements and public benches will enable people to wait for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in complete safety and peace.
The event was attended by more than thirty institutional, technical, financial and beneficiary partners (Chef de quartier, Lycée Principal, Representative of the CETUD/BRT, Project Manager at GRET, Representative of UN Habitat and the AFD).
"I am delighted with the inclusive nature of this project, which has been demonstrated by the perfect involvement of all the project's stakeholders from the identification phase right up to this inauguration day." Mamadou Diop Neighbourhood Delegate

The official handover of the equipment was followed by an official tour of all the facilities, which were designed using local environmentally-friendly materials and by craftsmen trained to carry out the work.
The Lycée will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the facilities. The Principal, Mr Lamine Kane, reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all the facilities are maintained to the highest standard, pointing out that the municipality's support in ensuring the safety of the investments, many of which are housed on the school premises, remains essential.

"This development reduces the difficulties encountered by local people in getting to the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit). Training all the beneficiaries in the Minecraft tool has enabled them to take real ownership of the project" Mr Lamine Kane Principal of the Lycée.
Usage of the site will be monitored by the Gret and UrbaSen to provide detailed data on different user and uses. Currently, the indoor facilities are particularly used by students during breaks and in the evening to benefit from street lighting, while the outdoor facilities around the high school are used by a variety of individuals, including local, vendors and high school students.
