This approach prioritises the use of techniques that require a significant local workforce, rather than the widespread use of construction machinery. By involving local residents in the work on a rotating basis and paying them, the approach builds the community’s skills whilst injecting direct economic resources into the neighbourhood. It thus maximises the project’s social impact and sense of ownership.
