Monrovia
Monrovia, a rapidly growing capital city, faces challenges related to informal urbanisation, infrastructure degradation, a lack of public spaces and climate vulnerability. The Monrovia Fabric Initiative is implemented by Mercy Corps Liberia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works, the Monrovia City Council (MCC), the Paynesville City Council (PCC) and the Gardnersville Commune.
The UFI-Monrovia is active in three communities (Lakpazee, Woodcamp and Shoe Factory) with the aim of strengthening community cohesion by developing or improving public spaces.
- Objective 1: co-design and co-build three pilot community corners with the communities.
- Objective 2: strengthen the capacity of local actors to sustainably manage community corners in a climate-friendly manner.
- Objective 3: raise awareness and improve community action on the management and use of public space.
